Other work
Most of Douglas' art was 30 x 30 cm or 40 x 40 cm acrylic paintings with mixed media on whitewashed board, painted at his top-floor studio overlooking Crieff, which he shared with Pat, life-partner in his latter years.
Douglas took sketch-books, pencils and fine drawing pens with him on holidays. He created some line drawings of scenes he came upon whilst walking. These pieces were some of the most realistic images he created.
Whilst Douglas was studying Art and design, he focused on large-format still life work, often with challenging perspectives and colours as was encouraged by Art Colleges at the time. These pieces were often still life compositions or small-room scenes of his young family at home in Broughty-Ferry and Dumbarton.
